Puppy Boot Camp. Christmas break 2010-2011

My dogs are fat. Like if I were to use this scale on the body quality of a cow, my dogs would score a 9. That means it's the fattest you can be before you'd die of being fat.

I mean I fully understand that Chloe has a torn ligament in her knee and can't do intense things like hiking, but she can handle a walk around the neighborhood. My mom just apparently doesn't want to and my dad is never home, and when he is he's busy doing other important things.

I have vowed that this break I'm going to walk Chloe and Jade every single day. I might even walk them twice on the days I feel like waking up before noon. I wish I could take them to tucson with me, then they would get in shape. I did walk them today, and they did great. I also only gave them 3/4 of a cup of food at each meal instead of a full cup. Muahahaha, by the time break is over they'll be in better shape and hopefully they'll stay that way.

Power Surge

So, I'd like to discuss the events of Sunday afternoon and how they've made me realize how pathetic our society has become. Mind you, I already had realized this, this is what I would call the icing on the cake.

Sunday at around 4:30PM the power went out everywhere west of Silverbell. It was a little annoying because it was starting to get dark but overall survivable. What resulted from this though, was something beautiful that I haven't seen since my days when I lived in Michigan. People came outside and started engaging physically with each other. People had a circle bumping a volleyball in the air, kids were riding their bikes around the neighborhood, and some moms were going on a walk together. It was so amazing and social.

The reason I say it made me see our society as pathetic is why does electricity have to go out for something like that to happen? The people playing in the street looked so happy with what they were doing. Has our lifestyle really become so sedentary that we can't engage in our lives without the inspiration of a power outage? We were designed to be social and physical and now it seems like no one remembers how to be human.

I remember when I was a little tyke I would wake up and want to go outside as soon as possible. I would pretty much sprint over to my friend Emily's house so we could play. We'd play in my backyard on my slide/swingset thing, or draw with sidewalk chalk. Regardless of what we were doing I don't remember a single time when we would sit and watch TV or play video games, even though we had them. When it was rainy we would just play dress up inside and build forts out of my building blocks and blankets. That was the best time of my life, and I don't understand why we've drifted from that so fast. All the parents in my neighborhood were friends and they would sit on their porches and talk, drink, and interact with one another on a daily basis. Now it's like neighbors won't interact with you unless they have to.

The only time I played nintendo or watched TV as a kid was when it got too dark to play outside for the day. It's just ridiculous that I never see kids playing outside the way we used to. Parents justify it by saying it's too dangerous with all the sexual predators and kidnappings these days. No. Just learn how to take the time to be a good parent and engage with your kids about the concepts of stranger danger like I and all of my friends were taught. If your spawn is too retarded and gets raped anyways, tough luck. The odds of that are slim and people are missing out on living because they're afraid of a negligible threat. And they are using that to justify their lazyness.

countdown..10....9....8.....7......................1 CHRISTMAS BREAK

I am probably the most excited person ever for the holidays! I've pretty much been bouncing in my chair all week thinking about how I just have a few tests and papers until I'm FREE. I really love winters in Prescott. They are perfect; just cold enough to put you in the holiday spirit, but not cold enough to freeze your tits off. I have my own little christmas tree here and Megan gave me some old yard decorations she used to have.

And of course after thanksgiving I went home for a couple of days and my mom had the tree up and all her christmassy candles, wreathes on the doors, christmas lights, my stocking was hung up on the mantle, all the good stuff. It just made me want to slip on my footie pajamas and read The Polar Express with Megan by the fireplace. I am SO ready for hot chocolate, I am SO ready for my mom's special spaghetti sauce, I am SO ready for the Andrea Bochelli Christmas album, and I am SO ready for the mountains again!
Of course there will be some nights when the ol' group will drive around in Haley's car for hours at night.
I'm also getting my wisdom teeth pulled

I'm just so excited! These next two weeks will hopefully go fast!

Almost a semester, already?

So as most of you know, I came down to U of A for college. Over the summer I pretty much had an anxiety attack every other day because of the impending doom called "I don't have a mother as a back up alarm clock". While I was motherless I managed to make it through to the entire third day of school (mind you my parents were still helping me move in on the first day, so they were available) before I overslept. I would personally like to congratulate myself though, because that has actually been the only time that that happened.

I began napping furiously the first two months of school, and it became a worse habit than heroine. I simply couldn't function if 4 hours of sleep was not present in the middle of the day. I took a great risk and quit napping, cold turkey. I've relapsed only on desperate occasions.

Now that I have shared my sleeping patterns with you I'd like everyone to know that I miss my friends from high school. Mostly those two hoes Haley and Jennie, and of course they are the absolute farthest away in the entire state. You guys are seriously like my favorite people to be around and I miss you terribly. Come visit me in Tucson sometime!

I don't even remember what I wanted to say about my college experience so far... so, now you know those random tidbits, and I might update later with something important to say

UPDATE:
So I just wanted to add this... College has not been exactly what I expected but I still like it a lot. I like all my classes and the people I've met through Sigma Alpha and I think I'm going to be really successful in the Veterinary Science major. Although learning about livestock isn't too exciting, everything else associated with my major that I've learned makes me more and more interested in the subject.

Speaking of which, I really want to go on this VIDA volunteer trip which lets me go get veterinary experience by working in free vet clinics in third world countries. I want to go so so so desperately bad, but it's very expensive. So if anyone reading this wants to give me any money.... it's for a good cause. :)

4th Ave

4th Ave is a street in Tucson located near the University of Arizona campus. Its landscape is painted by many buildings (most of which used to be houses) brightly colored and range in business types from tattoo parlors and "organic gardening" shops, to vintage clothing boutiques and coffee shops. The entire space of 4th ave thrives on its diversity.

4th Avenue is a very unique street in Tucson, and it’s not afraid to show it. There is a gap in between the sidewalk and the street. In a way, that gap is a significant separation because once one steps off the physical road and onto the “Avenue” they become immersed into a completely different scene other than just a mere street. Having two bright statues that are at the boarder your property shows what you have to offer to the area as an individual/business/whatever you are, it’s very much a competition to attract the most attention to oneself so that they can show how they might be the most different subject on the street. The sign on the light pole is an advertisement to the public showing them what they might find on their venture down 4th Ave such as works of art that incorporate a culture. The larger statue itself also shows diversity, but how different groups can work together. It contains a white woman and a colored man working together to support the world, showing unity despite gender and race are needed to keep the world going. The paint job on the mushroom is extremely colorful, similar to the wide variety of people that make up a certain place such as 4th Ave. The statues show that there are no boundaries between the types of people that walk the street and that all the different cultures can come together in a common space but still have their individuality.

One would think that a bright blue house building would stand out and attract a lot of attention, but not on 4th Ave. It is very common to see brightly colored businesses with funky signs or architecture. On 4th Ave it’s essentially a competition to see who can stand out the most and attract the most attention from tourists and locals. At first, someone wouldn’t even notice what the business is inside this place. The building just sucks in your attention and makes you curious. With its sign full of detail, yet hard to read words, this place traps you with it’s encompassing mystery. A bright and flashy place (sometimes even considered gaudy) catches the eye, and as humans there is an innate feeling to find the meaning of things or "why" something has happened. Now that someone’s interest is grabbed they might walk closer to satisfy their need for knowing why this building caught their eye, go inside maybe, and learn that this business is a hair salon. The individual may not be interested in getting their hair cut walking in, but luring people inside helps their business. When the person that stumbled upon this salon does actually need a haircut, they’ll remember that brightly colored and funky place they discovered on 4th Ave and will want to try it out. Each place needs to be as different as possible so people will remember the business and return someday. As a result of this, 4th Avenue is a landscape of businesses with spunk.

Desert Vintage and Costume is one of the first buildings you see walking down 4th Ave as it changes from a residential street to an area of business and culture. Judging by the display of costumes both hanging on the porch and visible through the window, mostly women shop there. Once again the business is trying to be diverse and lure in your curiosity, you can see such an odd costume on the mannequin. The display shows a wide variety of costumes as well, 1930s flapper costumes, marching band outfits, a large poofy gown, and belly dancing costumes can all be seen in the entrance way. It looks like this vintage costume boutique has almost anything a woman might want when searching for a costume. The mannequin is posed in an interesting way. Sassy, as if the costume she’s wearing gives her this awesome personality. Women want to be reassured that they’re going to feel good and confident in what they’re wearing so having such confidence portrayed on an inanimate object allows women to break their comfort boundaries and dare to be different. Some women would be timid towards wearing a hot pink cheetah print dress, a pink wig, and a cat mask. The mannequin has successfully pulled it off, so it’s a given that a real woman would. Just like shopping at the mall except this store isn’t suggesting that one needs to be trendy, but rather that daring to be different is the best choice one can make.

Some people would view the scene of 4th Ave from the perspective that only young college kids go down there to get wasted on a Saturday night. But no, this picture tells us differently. On older man and woman are taking a stroll down the street in the middle of the afternoon. They appear to be looking into shops and enjoying the atmosphere 4th Ave has to offer. The sign behind the building on the left once again reveals more diversity in the space. The place is called “La Indita” which indicates a Hispanic cultural theme that is present in much of Tucson, still lurking on the Avenue. People of all sorts come down to 4th Ave to see what there is, there is a car on the right of the picture that seems like it is pretty expensive indicating that the wealthy come down for the experience as well and get tossed into the array of people and businesses that make up the space. 4th Avenue is probably the most diverse sect of Tucson and the area is ready to proclaim that statement from the rooftops. All different groups are attracted to it, from people who want to get a tattoo and smoke hookah, to someone who would like to eat lunch at a small cafĂ© and look for something to add to their art collection. Some people are overwhelmed by it, and some people embrace the idea head on, but either way there is something on this stretch of road that caters to everyone’s wants and needs. People who don’t like the idea of going down to 4th Ave to see what it’s about are probably afraid to step outside their boundaries and experience something new and different.

Oh my aching.....Bladder?!

Yeah that's right kids, I got a bladder infection. And let me tell you, it was not the most pleasant experience of my life. We did a school show for Jesus Christ Superstar Monday and then I got to go to dance for once! Everything was going great for the day, I went to bed early to get some rest yada yada.

Until... dun dun dun. I awake freezing at 2:36 in the morning. There is absolutely no way for me to get warm and I am in pain. I knew as much as I wanted to deny it that I was getting sick. I couldn't really yell loud enough for my mom to hear, so I called her on my cell phone (oh how nice technology is). She came down and helped me move to the bed upstairs, gave me some tylenol, a washcloth for my forehead, and put blankets on the bed until I stopped shiverrrrring. I finally fell asleep once my tylenol kicked in, and I made it until about 8:30 when my fever started acting up again. My mom gave me more tylenol and once I calmed down a little we went to urgent care. After a miserable hour waiting, moving to a room to get measured, waiting, peeing in a cup, waiting, the doctor determined I had a bladder infection. My fever in the office was around 102, mind you, that was after I had cooled down enough to leave my household.

So I am bedridden for 2 days with occasional fevers and puking (thank you small print on my prescription....stupid dairy). I got in some quality Oprah watching and watched a movie with the 'rents one night. Luckily, I felt well enough to move by Thursday afternoon and I went to my after lunch classes and did the play that night. It went really well for being sick. The next morning I went to school, but by lunch I was exhausted from a lack of sleep so I went home and napped before Friday night's show.

Saturday was just a good day. I slept til 1, leisurely got ready, had a wonderful show, and went to the cast party. The only thing that put a damper on my day was Alex's parents showing up at Jesus and being the jerks they are. Since Alex isn't living with his parents at the moment, my dad offered to him that he can borrow the truck this week since he'll be at work. Today Alex took up the offer and he's driving it until he doesn't need it. I'm so greatful to have a dad as nice as mine that is willing to do that to help out my friends. Well, that's all for now, I'm off to do make up work and studyudyudy.

And now I suck worse than before

Hey everyone! Remember me?

Well since last time I posted a few things have happened: I joined Jesus Christ Superstar, I have gotten a bad case of senioritis, and I have gotten the best boyfriend ever. Kena is seriously like the male version of my personality! It was interesting how we got together; we were both hatin' on valentine's day so dearest Joy Nelson kinda worked on setting us up. We went out to dinner and a movie and things went really well. The next weekend I had regionals in Phoenix, and Kena went up to Prescott so as soon as I got home from my concert on Saturday we hung out, we became official the next morning. Then the next day Joy was taking Becca to Tucson and needed a driving buddy. I didn't want to go because I wanted to spend time with Kena, and her other option was to take Kena with her. So we both decided to go down and harass the Nelsons. It was fun, I got to see chands and some people in Tucson and we dropped off Kena in Tempe. It was a really nice day.

Spring break was good. Kena and I hung out practically everyday except the one day I took to do homework.

Now spring is here and I'm going to die of allergies. Oh and my new BFF is Ke$ha

I apparently suck at blogging

Sorry to all of you who have been desperately wanting me to post. I haven't really had the time to sit down and organize my thoughts but now I do.

I believe I last left off when I was in the airport leaving for London. I don't really feel the need to describe the whole trip so I'll do it in 2 Sentences. The non touristy aspects of the trip were the best and I wish we had had more time to explore. The food in England sucks. If you want to hear stories you can ask me on a personal level.

We got back from London at 11 the night before school started so needless to say... I went to calculus and came home and slept until AP gov. I didn't go to dance that whole week. 1. because I was freaking tired and 2. because "we the people" was that weekend and I was prioritizing my studying over dance. We the People was a good experience even though we didn't place. We did get the best unit 1 award though. I absolutely HATE the politics of that competition though because they have that whole "everyone is a winner" aspect of giving awards. So the teams that place basically can't get a unit award even though they probably deserve it, and schools can't get more than 1 unit award. Just let sucky schools know they suck. They should feel bad that they're stupid and not let the deserving teams miss out on getting the most out of their hard work. God, things like that bother me. But there were good times involved in that trip. We had just arrived at PF Chang's the night before and Matty K was telling Ryan that his mom is 50 and therefore too old to learn how to use a Mac efficiently. And this lady was walking into the restaurant right when he said that and said "Hey I'm 50!" and of course matthew says "I'm sorry ma'am but you're old." This lady then puts her fists up like she wants to fight Matt, and then walks up to him and kisses him on the cheek and goes inside. We decide to walk around the building since we weren't being seated yet, and as we round to the front again the lady comes out and walks by our class squeezing Matt's, Vince's, Taylor Robbin's, and Sara Morril's ass. So basically our class was sexually violated that night. There is another story I could tell about 2 boys in a closet, cat noises, the texas v. alabama game, and a cop. But I think just saying that to spark your curiosity but never satisfy it will be fun for me.

I think this semester is going to be hella fun. I'm gonna hang out with my friends a lot. Joy is a hopeless college drop out so we've been chillin a bit. And my work load this semester has been lessening a whooole lot already. Just gotta get ready for my exams so I NEVER HAVE TO TAKE MATH AGAIN. woohoo. That is all for now. I'll be better about posting this week, I promise
